Before you decide

What is Izel?

Izel is an intention-keeping app — a voice-first reflection app built around the word-of-the-year practice.

You choose a Word for your year, describe the life you want to create and set the intentions that matter to you. Then, as life happens, you capture meaningful moments by voice or text. Each Sunday, Izel connects those moments back to your intentions and reflects what your life is showing you — where you’re living your Word, where you’re drifting and what might be worth noticing next.

You define what matters. You live. Izel connects the dots.

What’s a "Word of the Year" and why would I pick one?

It’s a single word that becomes your filter for decisions all year — think "courage" or "spacious" or "build." Instead of a list of resolutions you’ll forget by February, you have one compass point. Izel can help you find yours through a guided voice conversation where you talk about what matters right now and the AI listens for recurring themes and helps you choose a word that captures them. Most people are surprised how fast it clicks.

I already journal — in Notes, Day One, or a paper notebook. Why would I switch?

You wouldn’t switch. You’d add a layer your journal can’t do.

Journaling apps — Day One, Rosebud, Stoic — are built around the entry: writing more, more often. Izel is built around one thing you said mattered, and the weekly question of whether your life is actually matching it.

When you capture something in Izel, it sorts itself — win, bold move, reflection, intention — and connects to any goal it relates to. After a few weeks it starts surfacing things you’d never catch skimming back through pages: boundaries came up three weeks running, or four of your bold moves landed in an area you used to avoid.

A journal stores your words. Izel reads them back to you.

I don’t want to talk to my phone.

Then type. Everything in Izel works with text — voice is just the fastest path for most people. That said, the voice features aren’t "talk to an AI assistant." You’re recording what happened in your day or describing who you’re becoming. It’s more like a voice note to yourself that the app actually understands.

How does the AI work? Is it going to psychoanalyse me?

Izel’s AI is designed to reflect, not psychoanalyse. It works from your own words, what matters to you and the moments you capture — then connects the dots and mirrors meaningful patterns back to you. It won’t diagnose you, speculate about your psychology or tell you why you feel a certain way. Think of it as a very attentive listener with a good memory, not a therapist.

Can’t I just do this with ChatGPT and my Notes app?

You could. But you’d have to build the system yourself.

ChatGPT can help you think things through. Notes can hold what you write down. But neither is built around keeping your intentions connected to your lived experience over time.

Izel holds the thread — your Word, your Vision, your goals and the moments you capture along the way — and connects them as your life unfolds.

That’s what the Mirror is made from.

How much time does this actually take?

Daily capture is under a minute — you speak or type what happened and you’re done. The Weekly Reset on Sundays runs 5–10 minutes: celebrate your wins, reflect on your word, set a few intentions for next week. That’s it. There’s no daily streak, no guilt mechanic, nothing that punishes you for skipping a day.

It’s the middle of the year. Isn’t it too late to start?

Not at all. Your year starts when you decide it does. Pick your Word now, set goals for this quarter and start capturing what happens. Izel works in quarterly cycles, so you don’t need to have started in January to get value from it. You simply start with where you are and build from there.

What if what matters to me changes?

That’s part of the process. Every quarter, you can revisit your Word, vision and goals and choose what matters now. Izel carries your history forward, so changing direction doesn’t mean starting over.

What actually happens on Sunday?

You open the Weekly Reset — it takes 5–10 minutes. You review your wins and celebrations from the week, reflect on how your word showed up and set intentions for the week ahead. When you finish, Izel generates your Weekly Mirror: a short, poetic reflection written entirely from your own words and data. People say it’s the moment the app clicks — seeing your week reflected back in a way you wouldn’t have written yourself, but that’s unmistakably you.

What if I miss a week? Or three?

Nothing breaks. There’s no streak to lose, no progress bar that resets. When you come back, your word is still there, your goals are still there and you pick up where you are. Izel is built around the assumption that life gets in the way — it’s a rhythm you return to, not a chain you maintain.

Is there an app for keeping your word of the year?

That's what Izel is for. Most people choose a word, then lose the thread within about six weeks — not because the word was wrong, but because nothing carries it into an ordinary Tuesday. Izel keeps it live: your word sits behind every weekly reflection, and each quarter you choose whether to keep it or change it.

I don't do the whole "word of the year" thing. Is this still for me?

Yes. The word is a starting point, not a requirement — it's just a short way of naming what matters to you right now, and you can change it every quarter.

The real question Izel answers is one most people can't answer honestly: am I actually spending my life on the things I said mattered? You define what matters. You capture what happens. Every Sunday you see the two side by side — what you're moving forward, and what's quietly slipped.

If you've ever got to the end of a month unsure where it went, that's the problem this solves.

Where does my data go? Who can see what I write?

Your data is stored securely and is yours alone — your data is never shared or used to train AI models. Voice recordings are transcribed and discarded. The AI processing happens only to generate your personal reflections, patterns and mirrors. You can export or delete your data at any time.

What happens after the free trial?

After 30 days, you decide whether Izel is something you want to keep using. If you do, you can continue for $5.75/mo on the annual plan ($69/year), or $9.99/mo month to month.

If you decide it’s not for you, you can simply leave. Everything you’ve created in Izel remains yours, and you can export your data at any time.

The trial is there to give you enough time to make a real decision — not to lock you into a subscription.
